On 14 June, people around the world come together to celebrate World Blood Donor Day and recognise the incredible contribution made by voluntary blood donors.
Donated blood saves millions of lives every year and plays a vital role in healthcare around the world. World Blood Donor Day is a chance to thank blood donors for their generosity and raise awareness of the importance of regular donations to help maintain a safe and reliable blood supply.
This year's theme, One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives , reminds us that every blood donation is much more than a medical act. It is an act of kindness and support for others. A single donation has the power to make a real difference and help improve lives around the world.
At Hart Biologicals, blood donation plays an important role in the work we do every day.
As a company specialising in haemostasis and platelet function testing, we rely on blood donations from our volunteers to support the development, manufacture and quality assurance of our products. Every donation helps us make sure our tests are accurate and reliable, helping healthcare professionals make informed decisions and supporting better care for patients.
While blood donation is most commonly associated with transfusions and emergency patient care, donated blood also supports research, and the development of new diagnostic technologies. Without volunteers willing to donate, much of the progress made in healthcare testing and innovation would not be possible.
We are fortunate to have a dedicated group of volunteers who regularly support our work. Some have been donating with us for many years, giving their time and making a real contribution to the work we do. In 2025 alone, our volunteers made 391 external blood donations, helping us do work that ultimately supports better care for patients.
We are also incredibly grateful to the local businesses, schools and organisations that encourage their staff and communities to take part in our donor programme. Their support has helped us build lasting relationships with donors and continue this important work.
This World Blood Donor Day, we would like to say a sincere thank you to every volunteer who has donated with us, whether it was your first donation or your fiftieth. Every donation represents someone taking time out of their day to help others. Your generosity helps support research and better healthcare, and we could not do it without you.
