Working in biomedical science, health is naturally a big part of what we do at Hart Biologicals. That’s why each year we’re proud to support World Heart Day and help raise awareness of cardiovascular health.
This year, we’re taking inspiration from the Keep the Beat challenge by encouraging the Hart team to step away from our desks and spend 20 minutes moving together.
What is World Heart Day and why is it important?
Every year on 29 September, people around the world come together for World Heart Day, an initiative led by the World Heart Federation to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and encourage action towards better heart health.
This year’s message, “Heart disease can hide in plain sight: Don’t Miss a Beat”, highlights the importance of recognising the signs and symptoms of CVD and taking action to protect our heart health.
Cardiovascular disease remains the world’s leading cause of death. While not all cardiovascular conditions can be prevented, many of the associated risk factors can be managed, and recognising potential signs and symptoms can help people seek medical advice sooner.
Looking after our hearts doesn’t always have to mean making dramatic lifestyle changes. Moving more, eating a balanced diet, avoiding tobacco, managing stress and keeping an eye on health indicators such as blood pressure and cholesterol can all contribute to better cardiovascular health.
As part of this year’s campaign, the World Heart Federation is encouraging people to Keep the Beat by incorporating 20 minutes of movement into every day throughout September. And it doesn’t have to be a workout. Whether it’s walking, cycling, dancing, playing a sport or simply finding an opportunity to move a little more, it all counts.
World Heart Day goes beyond the choices we make as individuals. The campaign also calls for greater awareness, earlier detection and better access to cardiovascular care around the world.
Why not join us?
Take 20 minutes. Go for a walk. Get outside. Dance around the kitchen. Move in whatever way works for you.❤️
