Human von Willebrand factor (vWF) can be measured by functional and immunological assays. Functional assays explore the ability of plasma vWF to agglutinate platelets in the presence of the antibiotic Ristocetin, known as the Ristocetin Co-Factor assay. Immunological assays are based on either electroimmunoassay (rocket) methods, or enzyme linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) for vWF.
VW-Con 1 may be used as a normal control when using tests for the identification of VwF. VW-Con 1 is prepared from a pool of plasma from normal individuals. The control plasma should be used to gauge internal factors in each laboratory's system
