HART BIOLOGICALS is saying goodbye to two industrial placement students that have made a big impression at the company over the last year.

Adam Holvey and Shelley James took a year out of their university degrees to work in the company’s thriving Research and Development departments.

Shelley, who worked with Hart Innovations, is in her final year of BioMedical Sciences at Sunderland University.

She said: “It’s been absolutely amazing to get this type of experience. I’ve been working on a separate project with the company in partnership with Sunderland University on protein purification that also ties into my dissertation. It’s great to be going back into my final year knowing that I’ve got all my lab work completed and simply have to get my work written up.

“Being able to work on such a high level project from the start is such an amazing opportunity and I cannot wait to make use of this experience when I return to university.

“You really learn from the people around you and develop your skills with them here. I’m already planning to return in January to come back to my project and would love to return after my degree too.”

Adam, who worked with the Hart Biologicals team, is the only student on his course that managed to secure a placement and will be going into his final year at Teesside University.

He said: “This really takes you to the next level and I’ve learnt so much that I would never have done during my degree. On top of that it’s also real job experience. This is my first position in a company and it’s really integrated me into working life, my confidence has grown so much.

“You can do a week placement but when you do a year you can really get stuck in a full-scale project and learn so much. I’m planning on studying a Master’s Degree in Microbiology up here in the North East and would love to return to the company someday.”

Hart Biologicals would like to extend a big thank you to both Adam and Shelley for all their brilliant work over the year and hope they both keep in contact with us during their studies.
